It is early in the morning, presentations are prepared, posters are wrapped up, and we are on our way to Berlin for the 57th diabetes conference, which is organized annually by the DDG. This year, our RTG was given the great opportunity to be part of the national largest diabetes conference, where the latest scientific developments and future perspectives on prevention and treatment of diabetes are provided.

Attending versatile poster presentations allowed us to acquire exciting insights into the current basic research. Some of our PhD/MD students were offered the possibility to present their own data within a short poster session. Especially after the last years in the pandemic, it was a terrific and refreshing experience to meet and exchange ideas with other scientists in this field.

Moreover, for us PhD students it was a privilege to be assigned to our very own session “Early causes of the development of type 2 diabetes – RTG 2576 vivid” where we were presenting our latest research projects from molecular mechanisms in the early development to potential drug targets for the treatment of T2DM.

Also, the participation by MD and PhD students in the young talent scholarship sponsored by the DDG was an excellent chance to get in exchange with other young physicians and scientists, which took place during 4 days of workshops, seminars and great lectures and continued at evening over a glass of vine.

Besides the marvelous impressions and insights we gained at the conference, in the end the best experience was that we all had the opportunity to attend the DDG together. Trips like these not only lead to getting to know your colleagues better, but also connect and strengthen cohesion within the RTG.

A vivid experience, which we will all remember with a smile :-)
